Blind Beggar Bartimaeus Believes
Children's sermon
Object:
Blind folded presenter
“And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.” (v. 52b)
Good morning whoever is out there.
I hope you boys and girls are here this morning. Since I can't see you, let me know if you are actually present. (have the children touch and/or speak and/or sing) (Humor works, like have the children repeat something silly like, “Good morning fantastic, awesome, most highest lord pastor/teacher”)
Oh, it's so good to hear (and/or feel) you this morning. Even though I can't see, I now know you are here.
Are you ready to hear an amazing story from the Bible?
(children respond)
One day, Jesus was walking down a road when a blind beggar named Bartimaeus shouted out very loudly, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”
Jesus answered back, “What do you want me to do?” Blind beggar Bartimaeus cried out and pleaded “My teacher let me see again.”
And when Jesus saw that blind beggar Bartimaeus had faith in him, Jesus said, “Go, your faith has healed you.” And Bartimaeus could see again!!
(presenter dramatically takes off his/her blind fold)
“Wow! I can see too!”
(invite the children to applaud)
Have you ever been somewhere where you couldn't see -- in a dark room or a cave?
(children respond)
Sometimes we are blind in other ways. We don't see kids who need a friend.
Or we don't see hurting people in our lives. So we need to ask Jesus to remove our blindness too.
Prayer: Jesus thank you for healing blind beggar Bartimaeus. Help us to take off our blind folds so we may see to help others be loved and get healed. Amen.
