Buried and raised
Children's sermon
Object:
A golden object (wedding ring, for example)
Gold is a beautiful metal. I'm so glad to have this gold with
me this morning. See how wonderful it is? See what beauty gold
has! I love gold.
I wonder how many of you know the story of King Midas? (Let them answer and let them help you tell the story.) King Midas, like me, thought that gold was wonderful and beautiful. One day he wished everything he touched would turn to gold. His wish came true and everything he touched did turn to gold. At first he was very happy, but then he became very sad. He found that a world that was all the same was a very lonely world. Gold is beautiful, but I sure am glad we have flowers, and trees, and brick and especially people!
Sometimes people wish everyone were like them. Sometimes I get that way. But I'm really glad that there are so many differences in people because it makes the world a very interesting place. The same is true in church -- we have all kinds of different people.
We are all different, but we share one thing in common. There is one thing that draws us all together and that is our common belief in Jesus, our Lord. The fact that we have the same Christ makes our other differences that much less important.
