Children of God
Children's sermon
Object:
a birth certificate
Good morning! I have a document here that I want you to see.
What is this? (Show the certificate and let them answer.) Yes,
this is a birth certificate, and it has a lot of information on
it. It tells when and where the person was born and gives his/her
name. And look here at this part. It tells the name of the
person's parents. This shows that the person is a child of these
parents. Have any of you seen your own birth certificate? (Let
them answer.) If you do see it, you will see these same facts
listed there.
In addition to the parents listed on our birth certificate,
however, some people have another parent. Who do you think that
might be? (Let them answer.) For all those people who believe in
Jesus as their Lord and Savior, God is their Father. They are
called children of God. There is also another name they are
called. They are called "saints." Do all of you believe in Jesus
as your Lord and Savior? (Let them answer.) Good! That means you
are children of God, and it means you are saints.
Today is "All Saints' Day." This is a day when we remember
all the saints who have lived before us and are now in Heaven
with God, their Father. A hundred years from now, when the church
celebrates All Saints' Day, they will be remembering you and me,
the children of God, His saints. Aren't you glad to be a child of
God, a saint of God? (Let them answer.) Yes, of course you are.
Let's thank God for making us His children, His saints.
Dear God in Heaven: We are grateful that You have made us Your
children and saints. We pray that You will help us remain
faithful to the end of our lives so that we too can be with all
the saints in Heaven. Amen.
