Children of God
Children's sermon
Object:
a photo of your family
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought a photograph of my
family to show this morning. I imagine that my family is a lot
like yours. We do many things together. We ride bikes together.
We go to movies together. In the summer we have picnics together.
In the winter we go sledding and sometimes ice skating together.
On Sundays, we go to church together.
What are some of the things that you like to do with your family? (Let them answer.) Your families do things together and your parents do many special things for you also. What does it mean to have a loving mother or father? (Let them answer.) When you are sick, who takes care of you? Your parents do. They take care of you because they love you. Your parents are a very important part of your family. It is important to know that your parents love you and so do your brothers and sisters, and grandparents. We all know that each of us is a child. Did you know that while we have parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents who love and take care of us, we also are children of God? If our family takes care of us when we need help, imagine what God does for us when we need help.
It is easy to say that we are children of God, because the Bible tells us this. I want you to know that being a child of God makes us very special. Here's why. Because we are children of God, we know that God knows us, God cares for us and God provides for us. Because we are children of God, we know that God loves us. God expects us to obey God's laws. Here's the best part of being a child of God. Because we are children of God, God has prepared a place for us in heaven.
Remember this week how important your family is to you. Remember that your family and your parents take care of you. Your family expects you to follow your family's rules. Remember also that each of you is a child of God. God takes care of you. God loves you. God has rules for you to follow. Best of all, there is a special place in heaven for all children of God.
