Children in God's Kingdom
Children's sermon
Object:
pictures of your young children or grandchildren
The Point: Children are important in God's kingdom
The Lesson: Thank you, boys and girls for coming up to share this time with me. This morning I brought some favorite pictures of mine to show you. (Show three or four pictures of your children or grandchildren or children in the church.) You might know who these children are. They are my grandchildren. I have pictures of them because I love them and because I love them they are important to me. Whenever I have the opportunity I visit with them. I enjoy sitting and playing games with them or going outside to run around. I also listen to what's going on in their lives. Ben is starting to play soccer. Ellie loves her little pony. Ava, who is just beginning to talk, loves to smile when you smile at her. Because I want them to know that God loves them, I always find a moment when we can say a prayer together. I want my grandchildren to know how important faith is.
Jesus in our Bible reading today is teaching his followers that is how we are to care for all children in our family of faith. Children are to be loved and cared for, and they are to be brought up learning about Jesus, especially to see faith action. When we love and speak of Jesus, children will realize that we love because God loves us. We caringly provide for children because that is what God is doing for us. You are children of God and you are important to God's kingdom. Jesus wants us to be his present of love to others.
Jesus tells us one more very important thing. When we seek to encourage you and all children, we are doing that to God our Father in heaven. Jesus wants us to know that to include children in our ministry is to include God, our Father in heaven. God loves his children and he wants us to love them too.
Children, you are an important part of God's family.
Prayer: Boys and girls, let us unite our hearts and hands in prayer. Lord Jesus, help us to see the value of all your children, young and old, to your kingdom. Use us to nurture and strengthen those around us. May the children in our families and in our family of faith know your love for them through our actions. Jesus, in your holy name we pray. Amen.
