Children's sermon

Paper bag with a mystery object inside
“Do not doubt but believe.” (v. 27b)
Good morning girls and boys,
Oh, it's so good to see you today. You children make me happy. I almost get goose bumps when I see you! How are you? Sleepy? Excited? Do you feel loved this morning? I hope so because not only does God love you, but we adults here also love you.
I have here a paper bag with a mystery item inside. But before I show you what is snuggled inside this bag, let’s play a game. I call it Doubt or Dare. (that is – Dare to believe) When I ask you something, you are to say “Doubt” or you are to say “Dare.” Dare means you actually believe what I am saying.
Let's go: I saw a man who was 20 feet tall. Doubt or Dare?
Parents love their children. Doubt or Dare?
There's a church somewhere made out of straw. Doubt or Dare?
There's group of people who worship steam. Doubt or Dare?
I have in my bag a ________.(fake snake or toy or some selected object) Doubt or Dare?
Jesus actually rose from the dead. Doubt or Dare?
When Jesus had risen from the dead, one of his disciples, Thomas, was not around but when Thomas returned and was told that Jesus had risen from the dead – he doubted. He didn't believe it. So Thomas got a nick name – Doubting Thomas. He did not Dare to believe. But then Jesus appeared and showed Doubting Thomas his pierced hands and feet – Thomas dared to believe. He said very loudly, “My Lord and my God!”
Now when I told you I had a _____ in this bag did you trust me and dare to believe?
(Show object) You could “dare to believe” me because you trusted me!
Yes, there is a church somewhere made of straw according to Ripley's Believe It or Not.
Yes, there is actually a group of people who worshiped steam also according to Ripley.
Prayer: Lord, we too dare to believe even unbelievable things. Most of all we dare to believe you rose from the dead and are alive today. Amen.
