Everything changes
Children's sermon
Object:
an older world map and a current one
Good morning! Here is a map of the world showing all the
countries of the world as they looked in 19__. I want you to
notice especially these countries. (Point out various countries
that no longer exist or have changed names. Former USSR would be
a good example.)
Now, here is a current map of the world. Notice the changes
which have been made. (Show the map and point out the changes to
them.)
I showed you those maps to point out that things in the
world are constantly changing. Everything around us is changing.
The town we live in has changed a lot over the years. Can any of
you tell me something in our own town that has changed over this
last year? (Let them answer.)
And things will continue to change as long as you live. By
the time you graduate from college, there will be a lot of new
jobs that don't even exist today, and many of the jobs that do
exist today will no longer be there when you get out of college.
Everything changes, but there is one thing which never
changes, one thing which has never and will never change. Does
anybody know what that is? (Let them answer.) God never changes,
does He? He is always the same. Jesus Christ, who is God, is the
same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The Bible tells us that very
clearly. We never have to worry that He will be different
tomorrow than He is today because He is always the same.
And that means that we can rely on God's promises. He will
never make a promise and then change His mind. He has promised
that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ will never perish, but
will have eternal life with Him in heaven. Do you believe in
Jesus as your friend and Savior? (Let them answer.) Okay, then
you are a believer and He promises that you will spend eternity
with Him in heaven. Isn't it great to know that the one who makes
that promise will never change His mind? (Let them answer.)
Dear God in heaven: We are so thankful that, in a world that is
constantly changing, You remain the same. We know we can rely on
Your promises forever. Amen.
