Birthday party invitation (with party information included)
I have some mail today! Who would like to open it? Please read what it says. (The invitation can be to the teacher's birthday.) I'm so excited to invite you to my birthday celebration. You are all invited! How do you think it would feel if I get all the refreshments prepared. I have a great big decorated chocolate cake, pizza, and popcorn. I prepare super nice treat bags full of candy bars for all of you. But... on the day of the party only 2 people show up! Has that ever happen to you?
In our story today, we are told a similar story about a man inviting people to an amazing banquet. But everyone made excuses of why they couldn't come. Both of these stories are a picture of how often people respond to God. God has prepared so much in advance for those that follow him and love him. In fact, he is preparing heaven for them. But all too often people make up many excuses to why they can't follow God. It may be that they are too busy with work or as it says in Luke 14:19, "I have just bought 5 yoke of oxen and I am on my way to try them out." Or maybe family comes before priorities with God. As it says, in Luke 14:20, "I just got married, so I can't come." Excuses, excuses! It must make God's heart so very sad. Just like my heart would be so sad if you couldn't come to my birthday party.
How do we apply this to our lives?
What is a reason that you don't follow God completely? Do you have excuses like some other day I will have time for God, or when I get older, or I have my career to think about now? Don't miss out on God's banquet! You'll be disappointed!
