Finding our way
Children's sermon
Object:
a city map
Good morning! What do I have here in my hand? (Show the map
and let them answer.) Yes, this is a map of our city, and we can
use this to find our way to any street that we want to find in
this town. For instance, _________, tell me the name of the
street that you live on. (Let that child answer.) Okay, if I want
to find that street, I look here in this section where all the
streets are listed and I see that street listed at (Name the
letter-number for that street). Now if we look on the map at the
intersection of ____________ and ____________, we find the street
where you live. Would you say this is a good way to find your way
around this town? (Let them answer.)
Once, Saint Paul wrote to the Christians at Thessalonica, a
city in Greece, that he was anxious to find his way back to them.
But he wasn't going to rely on any kind of map to do that. I'm
not sure he had any kind of map. He was going to ask God to help
him. Are there times when we need to find our way, that is, when
we are not sure what to do about something? (Let them answer.)
Yes, of course that happens. Do you think it would be good for us
to do what Paul did and ask God for directions? (Let them
answer.) Yes, that's always a good idea. Let's do that now.
Dear God in Heaven: We thank You for always being there for us
when we pray. Help us to remember that we need to go to You in
prayer when we need direction. Amen.
