Get on the right plane!
Children's sermon
Object:
an airline ticket or facsimile or a boarding pass
Good morning! What do you think I have here? (Let them
answer.) That's right. This is a ticket which allows you to get
on a plane for a trip. If you want to go somewhere on an airline,
you have to have a ticket, don't you? (Let them answer.)
Now this ticket is for a trip to Chicago. If I want to go to
Chicago I can use this ticket, but I would have to make sure I
got on the right airplane, wouldn't I? If I got on the wrong one,
I wouldn't get to Chicago. I would wind up wherever that plane
was going.
Once, Jesus told a parable about two men who died. One went
to Heaven and the other went to Hell. Do you think both of those
men would have liked to go to Heaven? (Let them answer.) Of
course, they both wanted to go to Heaven, but one of them went to
Hell, didn't he? The reason he went to Hell was that he didn't
believe in the promises of God. We could say that he was on the
wrong airplane!
The airplane that takes us to Heaven is the one that has
Jesus at the controls. Jesus is the only pilot who can take us to
Heaven. All of us who believe in Jesus are on the right airplane.
Do all of you believe in Jesus? (Let them answer.) That's great!
Because you believe in him, you're on the right plane!
Now, let's ask God to keep us on the right plane.
Dearest God: We thank You for giving us faith so that we can
believe in Jesus, our Savior. Please keep us always on the right
plane. Amen.
