Getting the work done
Children's sermon
Object:
a calendar
Good morning! What do I have here in my hand? (Show the
calendar and let them answer.) Yes, this is a calendar, and I
want you to look at the calendar and tell me what day tomorrow
is. Why is tomorrow shown as a special day? (Let them see the
calendar and answer.) Yes, that's right. Tomorrow is Labor Day.
Most businesses and offices will be closed tomorrow for this
holiday. There will be no school either. Why do we have this
holiday? Who is being honored on this special day? (Let them
answer.) This day honors all the people who work in our country.
Let me ask all of you a question now. What do you think
would happen to our country if nobody were willing to work? (Let
them answer.) The whole country would collapse, wouldn't it? It
would be really awful for all of us. There would be no food in
the stores and nobody to sell it to us even if food were there.
There would be no water or electricity in our houses, no gas for
our cars, nothing! So do you think it's important that people in
our country are willing to work? (Let them answer.)
That same thing is true in the church. The Bible says that
we are to be doers of the word and not just hearers. That means
God wants us to be active in doing the things that He wants us to
do and not just sit around and listen. If the people in our
church were not willing to work, you and I wouldn't be here
today. It takes a lot of work by a lot of people to make a church
go. Let's thank God for giving us willing workers in this church.
Dear God in Heaven: We thank You for giving us people in our
church who are willing to work hard to make sure that Your word
is preached in this house and that all the things that are
necessary for this to be done are accomplished. Amen.
