Go To Jesus For the Words of Life
Children's sermon
Object:
TomTom (or other GPS)
The Point: Jesus, alone, has the words of eternal life.
The Lesson: Thank you, boys and girls, for coming up to share this time with me.
This week I went out to visit a person who is new to our church family. I had the address where they lived, but I wasn't sure how to get to their home. So I went to my TomTom. I brought it with me this morning. Years ago I would have taken out a map in order to find the address. With my TomTom, all I had to do was type in the address. It then gave me directions to where I wanted to go. It is a huge help to find your way.
Some day would you like to go heaven? Would you like to find a place filled with love and joy and peace? Would you like to be at home with Jesus forever and ever?
A TomTom or a map can't help you find that. Peter in our reading from John said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." (John 6:68) Peter was talking about Jesus.
A TomTom can give us directions to a home or a place here on earth. But only Jesus can give us directions for eternal life. If you faithfully go to Jesus and seek his guidance, he will guide your spiritual life. He will nurture your faith and encourage your life. His words will bring to you true joy and peace.
Peter is absolutely correct. Jesus alone has the words of eternal life. He alone should guide and direct your life.
Prayer: Boys and girls, let us unite our hearts and hands in prayer. Lord Jesus, we believe that you are our Savior and God's only Son. You have come to bring us forgiveness and eternal life. May we faithfully seek your directions in life. When we are lost, may your words guide us back to you and your path for us. Jesus, bless these your children with your words of love and light for life's journey. Amen.
