Goals For Jesus
Children's sermon

Object:
a soccer ball
How many of you like to play soccer? How many of you like to be on the winning team? Our lives are sort of like a soccer game. Each day we get to choose who is going to be the winner. Do we give God a free kick or Satan the free kick?
Jesus had to make some hard choices too. He was like us. Satan came to him and tried to persuade and tempt him to sin and do wrong things. Satan told him to worship him instead of worship God. But Jesus got the goal for God and said "Away from me Satan! For it is written, "Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only." (Matthew 4:10)
Satan was feeding Jesus lies but Jesus was well trained and knew what the truth of God was. Are you well trained for the game of life so that you can play it well and get goals for God's team? It means reading the Bible often so you put His truth into your mind and heart and not be fooled by Satan.
How do we apply this to our lives?
Everyday make a decision to not give into Satan's team but be a winner and get a goal for God's glory. But it means training and that includes learning his truth so you won't be fooled by Satan's lies. Take even one verse a week and see if you and your family can memorize it together. Maybe say it together before you eat your meal. Make lots of goals for God and make Satan the losing team.
