God spoke

And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his
glory, the glory as of father's only son, full of grace and truth. (v. 14)
Good morning, boys and girls. I would like to read a few words from the Bible and see if you are able to tell me who spoke the words. "Let there be light."
Here is another saying from the Bible. "Honor your father and your mother."
Do you know who spoke these words? (let them answer) I will repeat them. In the very first book of the Bible, we read the words, "Let there be light," and I want to know who said these words.
In the book of Deuteronomy, we hear the words, "Honor your father and your mother" and I want to know who said these words. (let them answer)
That's right! God spoke those words! The first saying from the Bible is about the creation of the world and God created the world by speaking the word. God said, "Let there be light" and there was light.
The second verse that I read comes from the Ten Commandments. God is talking about how every one of us should respect our parents every moment of every day. That is God's Word and when he speaks it is always so.
Let me read you another verse from Matthew. "And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, the Beloved with whom I am well pleased.' " Who do you think said these words? (let them answer) You are right again. This is the word of God being spoken at the time of Jesus' baptism.
Here is the important thing that we are to remember: When the Bible says that God spoke, we are saying that God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Son is Jesus and the Bible teaches us that he is the Word. When the Father speaks, it is the same as Jesus speaking and the Father is the Word. When the Holy Spirit speaks, he is the Word.
Today the Bible teaches us that not only is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit one God, but when Jesus was born into the world it was all about God becoming human. We are human but we are not God. Jesus is God and also was human.
Before Jesus came as a baby on Christmas Day, he lived as God in the heavens above and we learned from him when he spoke. But when he came to live with us on earth, we learned how much God really loves us that he would come and live among us. Amen.
