In God's Time
Children's sermon
Object:
a watch
The Point: God gives us the time and talents to support his kingdom.
The Lesson: Good morning, girls and boys. Thank you for joining me as we learn what Jesus wants to teach us.
Do you know that you have been given a wonderful gift? (get responses) It is the gift of time. My watch helps me to know what time it is. How we use our gift of time is important. Some of your time will be used to sleep and to eat. Some of your time will be used to learn in school and to play outside. Some of your time will be used to go to church and to say your prayers at night. Some of your time will be used to help others and to grow up. Some of your time will be used to play games and to work cleaning your room.
How you use your gift of time is important.
Jesus tells a story from our lesson about two different ways to use the time we have been given. Some people use their time for themselves. They don't use the time they have to grow in faith or to help spread God's kingdom. Other people use their time and abilities for Jesus. They use some of their time to learn about Jesus and to help others to know him.
I think that Jesus is telling us that the gift of time and our abilities are not ours to waste. Those who don't use God's gift of time and abilities to serve God will lose out. But those who use their time and abilities for the work of God's kingdom will be rewarded.
Isn't it wonderful to think about this wonderful gift of time that God has blessed you with? When you see a watch or a clock, remember that Jesus wants us to use this gift to grow in faith and to help others to know him.
Closing Prayer: Let us pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of time and abilities that you give to us. Help us as your children to faithfully use our gifts to share your kingdom. Lord Jesus may we lift you up in our service. Jesus, in your name we pray. Amen.
