Growing up tall, smart and loved
Children's sermon

“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom and the favor of God was upon him.” (v. 40)
Good Morning boys and girls,
How many of you were once babies? (children answer) Silly question right? Of course we were all once babies. And our parents thought we were sooooo cute!
But now let me ask did you stay being a baby? No, you began to grow and grow.
Let's see about how much you have grown. (measure a child or two with a yardstick)
And the wonderful thing is that you will grow and grow some more.
When you were a baby did you know how to multiply? Like what is the answer to two times eight? I'm sure not. Your mind had not grown yet to know the answer is sixteen.
Or is it seventeen? (children give right answer)
As you get older and go to school your mind grows and grows and you become smarter.
When you were a baby were you able to tell what this is? (show bible)
Of course a baby neither talks nor what would know what a bible is.
But later on, at home and in Sunday School, a young child grows up in faith.
Now you know, and have learned what God's Word, the Bible is, and how it helps you grow in your faith.
Jesus did not stay a baby. The bible says that Jesus grew up. He grew physically, mentally and spiritually. One day Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple as a young boy. Two senior citizens, Anna and Simeon, in the temple, noted that Jesus was God's most unusual, special child. And the bible says that God's favor rested upon Jesus.
As you grow up, like Jesus, you too will grow taller and stronger and wiser. You will continue to grow because God's favor, that is God's love makes you grow.
Prayer: Lord Jesus as you grew up as a young boy help us to grow in all ways, especially in our faith in you. Amen.
