Help wanted!
Children's Activity
Teachers or Parents: The words of Jesus regarding few
workers are as true today as the day he uttered them. We need all
Christians to be aware of their responsibility to spread the good
news of the gospel. Anything we can do to impress this on our
children will be beneficial to the cause of evangelism. We need
all the help we can get in this mission activity!
*Bring some candy or another kind of prize and show the
prize to the children. Let them know that the prize will be
awarded only if a certain task can be performed in a short time.
Let volunteers try to perform the task, but make sure it is
always too much to do in the allotted time. When it is obvious
that it can't be done, let them suggest ways it could be done.
When they identify that it can be done if more people were
helping, let them do it and award the prize. Then discuss what
Jesus says about a plentiful harvest, but few workers.
*Ask the children to draw a picture showing the kind of work
one or more parents do. As they show and talk about their
pictures, ask them about others who help with the work being done
by the parent. Discuss how almost all jobs are done with the help
of many people. This will give you the chance to talk about the
gospel message.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Hand out playing cards to the children, aces, kings, queens
and jacks. Include only one joker. Have five different tasks
planned for the children to perform. Have the aces do one task,
the kings another, and so forth. Make sure the task assigned for
the one joker is one that cannot be done alone in the time
allotted. When everyone has completed the tasks except the joker,
have that child talk about the difficulty of doing the task
alone. This will give you the opening to talk about what Jesus
meant when he said more workers are needed.
