Holy Spirit cards
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Jesus appeared to the disciples and gave them the
Holy Spirit. Jesus appeared as the disciples were hiding from the
Jews. When they realized it was Jesus who was with them they
rejoiced. For the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit was a
happy occasion. Explain this situation to your students.
Have papers, crayons or colored markers and envelopes for each student. Fold the papers to fit into the envelopes. Tell your students that we give cards to friends on special occasions: birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. This is another special occasion. Jesus gives the disciples the Holy Spirit and tells them to go out into the world to preach the good news. Have students create a greeting card that states on the outside: "Peace Be With You." The inside could state: "Receive the Holy Spirit -- John 20:22."
These cards could be mailed to church members in nursing homes, or those who are unable to attend church. Have students sign their names and add your church name and Sunday school class name. Give the student the address information for the envelope. If you have a church photo directory show students pictures of those who will receive the cards. Have students take the cards home to mail.
Parents: Your child created a card to send to a member of the church who is in a nursing home or who is unable to attend church regularly. Give your child a postage stamp, take your child to the post office and help him mail the card. Make certain your child signs his name.
