How To Appreciate Jesus

Object:
Two pictures of cars (one really smashed up and one with a small dent.)
How many of you like cars? (Show picture of really smashed up car.) I hope that this never happens to your car. Accidents do happen but hopefully it will only be a small dent like this picture. I need two volunteers. Give a picture of one of the cars to each.
Let's imagine if you had to be the one to pay for fixing up the car. But also imagine that the repairman tells you that he will cover the cost of all the repairs. Which owner of these two cars would be most grateful?
This reminds me of a story in the Bible about a woman that loved Jesus. You see her life was sort of like this terribly wrecked car and she couldn't begin to pay the price. But Jesus made her life all new and she was so grateful to Jesus. She had been forgiven much and she loved Jesus so much. She was so thankful to Jesus that she looked for a way to show him how much she appreciated it. Back in those days people would get very dirty feet because they would walk with sandals on dirt roads. It says in Luke 7:37-38:
When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought a jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
This woman got down on her knees and she started to wash the feet of Jesus. She humbly stooped down and did it, not because she had to but because she wanted to express her heart of thankfulness.
Our lives are also in a big wreck with sin and Jesus offers to pay to have it all forgiven and taken care of because we can't begin to be able to pay for it. Jesus offers a full payment to have it forgiven, even though we did not do anything to deserve it. It reminds me of a song, "Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe." How can we demonstrate our thanks to him like the woman did?
How can we apply this to our lives?
You can show your gratefulness to God by doing something that brings him joy, like humbly helping to do the dishes, maybe sweeping the floor, or taking out the trash. We don't have to do it to earn his love but we do it to express our thankfulness to Jesus.
