It's just not fair!
Children's sermon
Object:
a baseball
Good morning! I have a baseball here. It's mine. I own it. Now
let's suppose we played some baseball in the vacant lot after
church and no one would let me play. I would not like that. I
might say, "It's not fair!"
When Jesus told the story about the two brothers, the older brother said that to the father: "It's not fair! I've been good. I stayed at home and have helped you for a long time -- yet you give this one a big party. It's not fair!"
Do you remember the story? The younger son had asked for his share of his father's property. Usually that does not happen until the parent dies and leaves his or her property in a will. But this young man wanted his now! And the father gave it to him!
Then this boy went off and spent all the money -- he wasted it! When he realized how wrong he was to do that, he went back to the father and asked to be hired as a servant. But the father was so happy that his son had returned that he forgot everything and had a wonderful, big party! The oldest brother was very jealous.
v God is like the father. God welcomes people into the kingdom. Sometimes we may think that a person doesn't deserve to be one of God's children because he or she lived such a bad life. We might even say, "It's not fair!" But God loves everyone and rejoices whenever a lost soul returns to God.
