Key To Eternal Life
Children's sermon
Null
Object:
keys to your car, house, church
The Point: Jesus is the key to eternal life so put your faith in him
The Lesson: Good morning, boys and girls. Thank you for joining me as we share God’s word together.
I brought with me some keys. (show keys) They are important to me. This key will open and start my car. That means I can drive to appointments, to the store, to visit family and friends in other towns. This key is the authority to use my car to get around.
This key is for our house. When I go home I can unlock the door to our house and enter. Our house is a place of comfort and warmth, a place of food and nurturing, and a place of shelter and gathering for those I love. This key is the authority to our home for shelter and family.
This key is for our church. When I arrive, I can unlock the church doors and turn on the lights so that people will feel welcome. With these keys I can open the door to my office, the church office, the choir room, and storage building. These keys are the authority to a place of ministry and outreach.
Luke tells us about a wonderful event as Jesus begins his ministry. A Roman army officer who was in charge of a 100 soldiers had a servant who was about to die. The Roman army officer believed that Jesus could heal his servant. So he sent Jewish leaders to ask Jesus to come. Before Jesus arrived, the Roman officer sent word that all Jesus had to do was give his command. He believed that Jesus had the authority of God to heal. Did Jesus have the key to heal people? (let children respond) No, Jesus is the key. Jesus is the key to our eternal life. Jesus has come from God our Father in heaven with the authority to save us.
Jesus is the key to eternal life so put your faith in him.
Prayer: Let us unite our hands and hearts together as we pray. Jesus, you came with the mission and authority to give us eternal life. May our faith see you as our key to life now and forever. In you alone Jesus do we place our trust. In the name of our Savior Jesus we pray. Amen.
