Lost And Found
Children's sermon
Object:
Draw a large clock that has no number nor hands
“As you go, proclaim the good news, 'The Kingdom of Heaven has come near”
(v. 7)
Good Morning boys and girls,
Oh my! Have you ever lost something? (children answer)
People lose keys, wallets, purses, books, hats, all kinds of things. When that happens how do you feel when you lose something you love? (Children answer) Yes, frustrated. Disgusted. And if it is valuable, you feel sad.
Jesus felt sad that day after he had traveled about the cities teaching, and curing the sick.
He felt sad because the people still looked like sheep without a shepherd. They seemed lost. Imagine this clock with no numbers. (show round circle with dot in the middle) See how the numbers representing the hours on this clock, are gone. Are they lost? Stolen? Misplaced? They need to be found.
Jesus loved the people who seemed lost and without a shepherd. The Bible says, “he had compassion for them.”
So Jesus went into action. He called for help. His 12 friends, his 12 chosen disciples came to help. Let's put the hands on this clock. Let's pretend the clock hands are the twelve apostles. Jesus sent the twelve out to find the people who were lost, just like the lost numbers. He gave them authority, over bad spirits and power to cure every disease.
As the people were healed and believed the good news about the Kingdom of Heaven
they were healed and happy. (Place the numbers from 1 to 12 on the clock)
Jesus still needs help. He said the work is vast and the workers are few. Pray the Lord to send more workers to the work place.
You and I are the hands on the clock today. As baptized believers Jesus gives us the authority to share the good news about the Kingdom of Heaven. We can help heal people by our presence, our friendship, and our words. Our message is that God loves them and forgives them all their sins on account of Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, as you sent the disciples out to do your mission, send us out too so that the lost may be found and brought safely home. Amen
