Loving by doing
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Today is Mother's Day and a good time for
showing loved ones we love them by what we do for them. Make
mother or grandmother or a respected mother of the congregation a
special, loving gift. Here are several possibilities:
* Draw a picture, carefully color it and, if possible, laminate it.
* Purchase some inexpensive clay pots and have the children paint their name or their mother's name on the pot. Plant a geranium or other easily grown plant.
* Make a hand-imprint paperweight or wall hanging out of plaster of Paris. If there is time, paint and frame it. (Be sure to imbed a hanging wire in the back if it is to be hung.)
* Distribute flower seeds for the children to plant, water, weed and care for as a loving gesture for their mother. Give directions. (Flowers can be planted on the church grounds as a loving act for God.)
* Make a pin. (Advance preparation: purchase the basic pin at a craft shop. Hot glue the pin to a backing to which a child may glue buttons or dried flowers as a gift to his or her mother or grandmother.)
Relate any activity to how we love Jesus in what we say and do. We love Jesus and want to do for him as we do for mothers on Mother's Day. We show our love for Jesus by obeying him in our living. Ask for specifics on what obeying Jesus might mean to the children.
