Math – Jesus' Style

The infinity symbol (an eight turned on it's side)
...I chose to give to this last the same as I give to you...so the last will be first and the first will be last. (v. 14b, 16)
Good morning boys and girls,
It's so fun to see you here at church and especially to see you come up and sit and visit with me. Thanks for listening. How are you? You look wonderful and happy.
If I asked you what two plus two is what would be your answer? I knew you would probably say four. That's correct in regular mathematics. But did you know that God's math is different? Once Jesus told a parable about a man who worked in a vineyard for all day and another man worked only an hour and they both got the same pay.
Other workers complained because they did not understand Jesus math.
Jesus' math is two plus two is really a million, billion, trillion, quadrillion and on and on.
Boys and girls, here is a symbol showing Jesus' math.(show infinity symbol)
This infinity symbol means endless. It means eternity. It stands for everlasting love.
In Jesus math sometimes the first is last and the last is first. Have you ever been last in the lunch line and someone up front or an adult invites you to come up first in line? Or the opposite happens?
The vineyard owner paying everybody the same is an example of God's generosity.
God's grace, mercy, and forgiveness are God's to give as God chooses.
Salvation is for all, whether one is a believer for one minute or a lifetime.
When you see a friend or a classmate get something you would like and want, how will you respond? As a child of God will you be envious and resentful or will you be happy for them and thankful?
When we get just a glimpse of Jesus math -- that makes us generous and thankful.
Prayer: Dear Lord, your mercy and love is forever and ever and ever. Make us generousin that love today and always. Amen.
