But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? (v. 14)
Good morning, boys and girls! How are you this morning? (allow answers) Today we are going to talk about missionaries. What do you think a missionary is? (allow answers) A missionary is someone who goes to a different place in the world to tell people about having faith in Jesus. Missionaries might go to places like China. They might go to Africa. They might go to Mexico or Malaysia or the Philippines. Do you know where any of those places are? (allow answers) Let's see if we can find those places on the globe. First, where is the USA? (help them find it) This is the USA where we live. Many missionaries come from the USA. Now, let's see if we can find the places they might go. Can anyone find Africa? (help them find it) How about China? (help them find it) Here, south of China, are islands like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Missionaries might go to these islands.
Actually, missionaries could go to any country. They might even stay in the United States! Besides teaching people about God's word, missionaries have another job: help people live better lives. They teach people how to love one another when they teach scripture, but missionaries also help give people good medical care, safe water, and a good education. Being a missionary is about more than just telling God's word -- it's about setting an example as good Christians, too.
Missionaries are important because they help people hear the word of God and help people see how to live godly lives. They help spread the word of God to places where it can make a difference or maybe places where it has never been heard before.
Pay attention during the service and around the church to see if you can find examples of missionaries. See if you can find out if there are missionaries that the church sends money or supplies to, or if there are any missionaries from this church. You will see that supporting missionaries or mission projects is an important part of our lives as Christians. It's good to spread the Good News! Amen.
