Never Quit Praying
Children's sermon

“Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray and not lose heart.” (v. 1)
Good morning girls and boys,
I am so glad to see you this morning. Are you ready to hear my children’s message today? (children respond) Ears and hearts open?
Let’s suppose you want to use your neighbor’s bicycle for an errand. Your neighbor is selfish and sometimes a bully. But you keep on asking and asking. Finally he/she relents and says, “Okay you have been bugging and bugging me, you may use my bicycle.”
Jesus told a parable about praying like that. Prayer is like a persistent widow who keeps on asking and asking an indifferent, uncaring judge for help. Finally the judge pays attention to her and helps her, because she keeps on asking and asking. Jesus teaches us, “to be persistent in prayer.” How much more likely than an uncaring judge, will a loving, attentive and gracious God hear our prayers?”
Jesus told this parable so that his disciples would realize their need to pray and pray and not lose heart. Prayer is like this spring. Push it down and it keeps coming back up. (demonstrate) Push it down – up it comes. Push it down and up it comes.
Have you ever wondered if God really hears your prayers? (children respond)
Have you ever had a prayer answered?(children respond)
Have you ever had a prayer that seems to not be heard by God? (children respond)
(presenter gives personal examples of prayers heard and those requests not seemingly heard)
Jesus teaches that we never give up praying. We pray for not only the big things in life, like for starving people, and world peace, but also the little everyday things. Pray. Pray. Never quit praying. What would you like to pray about today? (children respond)
(conclude with a prayer that includes the concerns mentioned)
Dear Lord Jesus, just as you taught us to pray without quitting, now hear the prayers we bring to you today... Amen.
