Oh, behave!

If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. (v. 17)
Good morning, boys and girls! How many of you have perfect behavior? (allow answers) Probably no one! We might try to be well-behaved, but none of us is perfect. We all slip up sometimes.
Who tells us how to behave? (allow answers) Our parents usually tell us how to behave. So do our teachers, our babysitters, and maybe our grandparents or aunts and uncles. There are lots of people who tell us how to behave.
What happens when we don't behave? (allow answers) We might get punished. Maybe we have to sit in time-out. Maybe we have to go to bed early. Maybe we aren't allowed to watch TV.
But even when our parents or loved ones punish us for misbehaving, they still love us. They aren't happy when we color on the walls or throw food or refuse to share our toys -- but at the end of the day, they are our parents. They love us a lot!
We love our parents, too, and we should want to make them happy. Do you want your parents to be happy? (allow answers) When we are well-behaved, we make our parents happy. No matter what, they will love us. But when we behave, we are showing through our actions that we love them, too. (show etiquette book)
God is like our parent. No matter what we do, he will always love us. But we should want to show him that we love him, too. We can do that by "behaving" in our lives. How do we behave for God? (allow answers) We behave for God by following the Ten Commandments the best that we can. We behave for God by showing God's love to everyone in our lives. We behave for God by being honest, trustworthy, and kind. And when we do these things, it makes God happy.
This week, try to make God happy in everything you do. Be kind to others. Show God that you know how to behave! Amen.
