One God in Three
Children's sermon
Object:
Apple
The Point: One God revealed in three ways.
The Lesson: Welcome, children. I am thankful that you came up to share with me.
Last Sunday we celebrated God coming to us as the Holy Spirit. The power of God to give us understanding of his will for our lives. The Holy Spirit is God revealing himself to us.
We heard today that God sent his only Son, Jesus, to be our Savior. Jesus didn't come to condemn us because we haven't been obedient to him but in order save us. Jesus is God revealing himself to us.
When we look at a starry night, or beautiful sunset, or even a powerful storm, we know in our hearts that God is a great creator. When we see a baby, or share in the love of a family, we know in our hearts that God is a loving creator. Creation and live itself reveal that God is a creator.
Now God our Creator and Jesus our Savior and the Holy Spirit our power are not three gods. We have one God who has revealed himself as our Creator, Savior, Empowerer. We call it the Trinity. Not three gods but one.
I brought with me an apple. How many apples do I have? Right, just this one. Now I am going to cut my apple in half so that you can see the inside of the apple. The apple has three parts, doesn't it? There is the skin, the meat of the apple, and the seeds at the center. It is one apple but it has three parts.
God our Father created all that is. God's Son, Jesus, came to save us from our sins. God's Spirit comes to give us the life with our Father in Heaven. Three special ways that our God has revealed himself to us, the Trinity -- One God.
Prayer: Children of God, let us hold hands and unite our hearts as we pray to Jesus. Today Jesus, we celebrate that you have revealed the fullness of God, the Trinity. God our Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, help us to grow in our understanding of work in our midst. Fully reveal yourself to your children and to your church. As we encounter you Lord, we worship you and proclaim you Lord of lords and our one true God. Jesus, in your holy name we pray. Amen.
