Teachers or Parents: Use the text today to teach the children
a new word. The word is the word Jesus used when he appeared to
his disciples. It is the word shalom -- "peace." This is a word
that Jews the world over still use as a word of greeting.
As the children's sermon showed, Jesus wanted his disciples to have peace -- the absence of fear, worry and inner conflict. But Jesus said to them shalom -- a word meaning more than the absence of these negative feelings. Shalom is a wish for peace, prosperity, joy, and the fullness of life. It is a word of greeting and much more.
Encourage the children to greet people today with the word shalom.
