Prayer line
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Prayer is an important part of our
Christian faith. Children usually don't have any problem with
prayer. Today's use of a telephone in the children's sermon might
become problematic because they might start wondering why God
doesn't answer like people answer. If so: wonderful!
Today you have an opportunity to explore the various ways God speaks to us: through scripture reading, by the beauty of nature, in the conversations of friends and family, in worship, through the hymns, and by insight given in the quiet moments of prayer and meditation.
Let your children talk to God on the unplugged phone. Play the part of God by answering questions the way God might. Be real and be authentic. Children know phoniness. Let God be God through your voice. After all, God is using you today and God is speaking through you to them!
If the children are old enough, spend some time memorizing this verse. It can be a wonderful resource to remind them throughout life that prayer helps fertilize our roots in Christ (Second lesson).
