Protects and beautifies
Children's sermon
Object:
car wax
Good morning! My father once had an old pickup truck that was a
very light blue in color. It was an old work truck that was not
too well taken care of. I remember taking some car polish and
putting some on the finish of that pickup. I was amazed! The
finish became bright and pretty -- not dull, faded and ugly like
it had been. (Use a similar story from your life.)
The polish used on cars makes them pretty. It keeps the colors bright and actually makes the paint last much longer. It helps protect the metal under the paint from water and rust and will make the car look good longer and stay nicer looking.
When I think of how car wax protects the finish of a car and how it makes the color stand out, I am reminded of how God protects us. We pray that God would guard and keep us in times of danger. We pray for others that God might protect them as well. Even Jesus prayed to God for us. He prayed that God would protect us.
Jesus not only prayed for our protection, he also prayed that God would make us one, beautiful people just like Jesus and God are one. All of us in this congregation are like one family -- the family of God.
Jesus prayed for you and me. He prayed for our protection and he prayed for our unity. He prayed that we might be one. What a nice thought! Jesus praying for you and me -- even before any of us were born! Jesus really loves us. No wonder he wanted God to protect us and to make us one.
Dearest Jesus: Thank you for making us one and for protecting us from all harm and danger. Amen.
