Questions about you
Sermon
Object:
a digital camera and someone to take each child's picture
Good morning, boys and girls. How well do you think you know your mother and father? (let them answer) Let me ask you a few questions? (have the child face you away from the parent and ask the parent to stand) What is your mother wearing this morning? (let the child answer each question after you ask it) What color are your mother's eyes? Is your mother right handed or left handed? What kind of work does your mother do outside of your home? (do this with several children and one of their parents while varying the questions) How do you think your parents would answer with you? Do you think they would do better or worse? You think they would do better.
I am going to have ____________ take your picture this morning. I will put your picture up in the hallway and ask other members to take a good look at you and ask themselves this question, "Do I think that God knows this child well enough that he could answer questions about the child?" Are you living close enough to God by reading your Bible, praying your prayers, and worshiping God so that God has had an opportunity to really know you well?
How well do you think God knows you? (let them answer) Do you think God knows the color of your hair, the kind of bicycle you ride, the name of the school you attend, your favorite food, and the person that is your best friend? (let them answer) Are there any questions that God could not answer about you? (let them answer) Do you think God remembers things that you have done? (let them answer) Do you think he remembers any lies, anything that you took that did not belong to you? (let them answer)
If you had one question to ask God about yourself, what would the question be? (let them answer) Would you ask him how long you were going to live or if you would graduate from college or who the person is you are going to marry? (let them answer) Do you think God knows the answers to those questions? (let them answer)
When you take a look at your picture in the hall, you can ask yourself the question, "God, do you know me as well as I hope I will know you?" We know that God says he loves his people and will always love his people. I think God really loves you.
Next week we will all look at your pictures and pray that God knows you like one of his own and that he will be with you always. Amen.
