Seeing Clearly

Object:
sunglasses or colored cellophane (buy at a party store)
Have you ever had the experience of looking through sunglasses or cellophane that is colored? It can make the scene of what you are looking at look entirely different. It can fool you about what it really looks like.
In our story today Jesus was upset with the crowd of people because they were not seeing clearly -- they chose to look through colored glasses instead. They knew how to see bad weather coming. Jesus said in Luke 12:56:
"You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and sky." but He said, "How is it that you don't know how to interpret or see this present time?"
There were things happening in the world at that time but it was like they just wanted to ignore those things and put on their sunglasses. We also have bad things going on in our world with crime and evil, a falling away from God. It is easier to just put on our rose colored glasses and ignore it all. But God wants us to look at how the world really is and understand the seriousness of it all.
In the days of Noah people were eating and drinking and living up life. They did not realize the seriousness of their sins. It says in Matthew 24:38,39:
"For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark... And they were oblivious, until the flood came and swept them all away. So will be the coming of the Son of Man." --Berean Study Bible
How can we apply this to our lives?
We can try to live in a fairytale world with our rose colored glasses but it is important to God that we recognize the seriousness of sin in our world. Satan wants to call evil good, and good evil, but we need to see clearly what sin is and what is evil.
