Snack Time
Children's sermon
Null
Object:
Pretzels or crackers (salted and salt free ones)
It's snack time! (Divide your group in half and give salty items to one group and unsalted items to the other ) I hope you enjoy!
Let's read our scripture for today in Matthew 5:13. It says,
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again. It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
Now do you know why you were given a snack? How many of you liked what you ate? Does the salt make a difference? Aren't the saltless ones yucky? You almost want to just throw them out in the trash.
When we have Jesus in our lives, we should be different than the rest of the world. We should add good flavor to the people around us. People should enjoy us just like you enjoyed the salty pretzels so much more.
But often we fail to show a difference and we just want to blend in with everyone else as it is easier and we are often lazy. For example, when you are at school and someone drops something are you quick to help that person and be a "good flavor of salt" or do you just follow the rest of the crowd and do nothing, remain saltless, good for nothing?
We are to make a difference and make our school, neighborhood, community a better place. We are to salt it -- to season it.
How do we apply this to our lives?
Is it evident that you are a child of God? You can show that salty flavor in your language, in your attitude and in your response to people and family. Don't remain silent and unsalted but help others to become thirsty for Jesus because of your salty flavor of a Jesus difference.
