True Security
Children's sermon
Null
Object:
a big paddle lock
The Point: in the hands of Jesus we are secure for all eternity
The Lesson: Good morning, boys and girls. Thank you for joining me as we share God’s word together.
Do you have anything that you consider really valuable? (let children respond) A treasure you wouldn’t want stolen? Maybe a piggy bank or a special video game? When you want to keep something safe what can you do? (let children respond) You put it in a bank. I have a safe deposit box at a bank where I have important documents like our passports, our mortgage papers, and our wills. They are safe in the bank. You could put your valuable things in a box with a paddle lock. I brought a paddle lock with me. (show children) This helps to keep those things that are valuable safe. The paddle lock will help to keep your things safe.
In our Bible reading Jesus is talking about keeping the most valuable thing, your eternal life, safe. It is a shepherd’s job to keep his sheep safe. Jesus said that his sheep recognize his voice and follow him. We may have a hard time in life, but we never have to fear about our eternal life. Not because we have a paddle lock but because our eternal life is in God’s hands. When we are in the hands of Jesus our Savior, we are in the hands of God. And no one can take us from our Father’s hands.
For your earthly valuables a paddle lock like this can help to keep them safe. For the safety of your eternal life only our risen Lord and Savior Jesus will do.
Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed!
Prayer: Let us unite our hands and hearts together as we pray. Gracious Jesus, you gave your life for us so that our eternal life might be kept safe in your hands. Jesus be our shepherd until eternal life. In the name of our Savior Jesus we pray. Amen.
