Trusting In God
Children's sermon

Object:
a blindfold
One day when Jesus was with his disciples, they asked him for something. Maybe we would ask Jesus for power or for money but his disciples asked for faith. In Luke 17:5 it says, The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." Faith is a big word, what does it really mean? (Wait for responses from children.) Let's use this blindfold to help us to understand it better. I need a volunteer to be blindfolded.
Sometimes in life we can't see how to get through hard situations but we have to depend on God to guide us. Let's demonstrate this. We will have our blindfolded volunteer__________ (name of child) walk through the aisle but I am going to put some obstacles in his/her way. ( suggestions of obstacles: a chair, a glass vase, a box, a child) This is like us with God, we feel blinded and can't see but need to depend on God to give us directions and we have to have faith in him to lead us. We realize how crazy it would be for ___________ to depend on himself when he is so blind. What we have our faith in is most important. It must be in our God who knows and sees all things. I will give you directions of how to come through the obstacles. You must have faith that I care about you and will do what is best for you. (Give child instructions)
This is a picture of what faith is. It is trusting and believing that God can do great things and is very able to do so even though you cannot see it yet. In Hebrews 11:1 it says that "To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see." Jesus told his disciples (Luke 17:6), "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea and it will obey you."
How Can We Apply This To Our Life?
You may feel like you are too young but Jesus used children as an example for how adults should be in accepting the kingdom of God. As kids you often are better in how you trust God. Be an example for us big adults! Put your total confidence and faith in God!
Let U Pray.
Dear God, thank you for the great things you do for us. Help us to trust in you and to show tohers how to trust. Amen.
