The Very Best Of All
Children's sermon
Object:
A toddler-level puzzle (wood, cardboard etc.) assembled with one piece missing
“The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most
important of all.” (v. 42b)
Good morning boys and girls,
I'm so happy to see you here this morning. I have something very important to show you. Who has put together a puzzle before? (children answer) Puzzles are fun. Puzzles are good for the mind and the eye. Puzzles help make us think and make us feel successful when we complete them.
I have a puzzle here to show you. (shows puzzle) It's a very simple puzzle. See I have put it all together. (children notice that one piece is missing and comment on it)
(presenter argues with the children insisting that the puzzle is fine even if one important
piece is missing)
What happened to the missing piece. I just threw it away. But if you think it is important
I'll find it and place it to where it belongs. (presenter picks up the missing piece in a nearby corner and places it in the puzzle)
Boys and girls, the Bible talks about a stone that was to be used to build a house. But the stone was thrown away. But then the builders realize that that stone was very important and they go and find it and place it where it belongs.
Jesus was like that. He was rejected like the missing puzzle piece, like the stone thrown away. Even though he suffered and died for our sins he has become the most important, the best person of all that ever lived.
Sometimes you may feel left out. It hurts doesn't it? When you feel forgotten or out of place, just remember in God's eye you are the best too!
Prayer: Jesus when they rejected you it must have hurt. It's so good to know when I feel rejected that you already know what it was like and that you will come by my side and encourage me. Amen.
