A voice from heaven
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: In this scripture, Jesus speaks about his approaching
death. Jesus asks to glorify the name of God. A voice from heaven
answers him with this statement: "I have glorified it, and I will
glorify it again." Some of the crowd that heard it said it was
thunder. Others said it was an angel speaking.
Here are two options for your students. Tell your students this brief story about the voice answering Jesus from heaven. Take your students to the pulpit. Turn on the microphone. One at a time, let each student stand before the microphone and state the words Jesus heard from heaven: "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." In this way, all the students can get a feeling for what Jesus heard.
As a second option, use a tape recorder in your classroom instead of the pulpit microphone. Have each student recite into the recorder the statement from heaven. Then play the entire tape back for them.
Parents: Your child read aloud a short scripture passage about a voice coming from heaven. If you have a cassette recorder record your child reciting some Bible passages. Begin with John 12:27-30, this week's lectionary scripture. Next, try some other familiar texts, for example, John 3:16, Genesis 1:1 or the 23rd Psalm.
