A warning for us all
Children's sermon
Object:
a warning label
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought something with me this
morning. Does anyone know what it is? (Show your warning label
and let them answer.) This is a warning label. It tells us to
stay away from this. There was a girl about your age who was
playing in her home. She accidentally came across some bottles.
One of them had a warning label like this on it. She knew just
what to do when she saw it. It was a warning and she stayed away!
She did the right thing.
This warning label makes me think of this morning's lesson. It has a warning in it also. The lesson is a story about John, who was preaching to people near the Jordan River. Many people came to listen to what he had to say. They didn't like some of the things they heard him say, but they wanted to listen. One of the things John had to say was a warning. He told people that Jesus would burn up whatever was evil or useless. Jesus would save what was worth saving.
This made people nervous. They asked John, "What shall we do so we won't be burned up by such a fire?" John told them to live the way God wants you to. Be honest. Don't cheat anybody. Act the way a tree would act that knows how to grow fruit.
The next time you see a warning label remember John. John came to warn people to do the right things. Act the way God wants us to act. Be honest. Don't cheat anyone. Can you remember that this week?
