Weeds
Children's Activity
Object:
SHARING THIS WEEK'S GOSPEL THEME
AT SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AT HOME
Materials:
Green construction paper
Scissors
Yellow tissue paper
Tape, glue, stapler
Green yarn
Markers
Hole punch
Directions:
1. Give each child a strip of tissue paper approximately 4" wide.
2. Have them accordion-fold the tissue paper with ½" or 1" folds, so that they end up with a folded piece that is 4" wide and either ½" or 1" tall.
3. Cut yarn in approximately 12-inch pieces and give one to each child.
4. Have children tie yarn tightly around the middle of the folded tissue paper, leaving one 8-inch tail and one 4-inch tail. Have them fluff the folds on either end to create a puffy yellow flower.
5. Have the children cut the green construction paper into leaf-shapes with jagged ridges around the edge (dandelion leaves).
6. On the leaves, have them write (or help them write): "God, help me fight my weeds."
7. Use the hole punch to punch holes in leaves and tie to long end of yarn or connect the yarn to the leaves with a stapler or tape.
8. Tie the short end of the yarn so that it makes a loop. That way the children can hang up their dandelion prayer.
