At our house, we have a sign on the door and a mat on the porch that welcomes people. How many of you have welcome signs at your house? (let them answer) It gives people a good feeling when they come to my house.
Often when I am out I say a greeting to people that I see. Sometimes I just say hello to complete strangers. To people I know I often say, "The Lord bless you," or "The peace of God be with you." I love that people are so interesting and different. God made us that way.
God loves people who welcome other people in the name of Jesus. Jesus told his disciples that when someone welcomes a person in the name of Jesus they are also welcoming them in the name of the Father God. How about that? When I greet you in the name of Jesus it means that you are being greeted by God, who created the world and everything in it, including you.
If I come to your house and you welcome me, then you are also welcoming Jesus into your home. The Bible tells us that the Father will also be there. I love to imagine that we are all there together.
And it doesn't have to be the pastor who visits your house to have the Lord Jesus and God the Father present. If anyone comes to your house and you welcome them into your home then Jesus and the Father will be there.
Do you like people to visit your home? (let them answer) When they come to your door, what do you say? (let them answer) Very good! Have you ever been visited by someone who said, "Hi, Tommy. The Lord be with you!" (let them answer) Perhaps you will try it today or tomorrow when the next person visits your home or you visit someone else's home. Look them right in the eye and say, "I bring you greetings in the name of Jesus!" It will begin your visit in a wonderful way.
