Who should we pray to?

Good morning! The Bible says that there is only one
"mediator" between God and all of us. Now that's a big word. Does
anyone know what it means? (Let them answer.) If we don't know
what a word means, where do we go to find the meaning? (Let them
answer.) Yes, we go to the dictionary. I brought one along so we
could look up the word. (Look up the word and read it to them.)
What that says to us is that a mediator is someone who
stands between two people or groups and tries to bring them
together. Now, who is the mediator between God and us? (Let them
answer.) Yes, it's Jesus! He is the one who lived among us as a
man and knows what it means to be human. He loves us and he died
on the cross to pay for our sins. When we pray to Jesus, we know
he will be a mediator before God because the Bible tells us that
he will.
Now let me ask you all a question. If Jesus is the only
mediator between God and us, does it make any sense to pray to
anyone else other than God, Himself? For instance, some people
pray to holy people who have died long ago. Does that make sense?
(Let them answer.) No, of course it doesn't. When we pray, it
must always be to God. We can pray to God the Father, the Holy
Spirit, or Jesus because they are all one. But, it is best for us
to pray to Jesus, the one mediator. Shall we do that now? (Let
them answer.)
Dear Jesus: We know that you are the only mediator between God
and us. We thank you for being our mediator and for loving us
enough to die for us. Amen.
