In 1957 my special Christmas...

In 1957 my special Christmas present was a draft notice from Uncle Sam. By midsummer of July '58 I had taken up residency in Seoul, Korea, where I served at the United Nations Headquarters. One day I was told I was being transferred to a new position. I would be working as an enlisted aide on the staff of the United Nations Commander, a four-star general. I remember meeting the other enlisted aides, the officer aides, and finally the general. It was awesome to say the least. A draftee from the hills of Kentucky being a player on the staff of the top military officer in the Far East. Did I feel overwhelmed? Life had surely dealt me a neat little package as I served my country. One day I came to realize that my heavenly Father says I am on his team also. I am called one of his children. But, according to the scripture lesson today, the world doesn't know who Jesus, God's only Son, is, and few will understand if I try to tell them who my father is. One day, however, the world will know that those of us who call ourselves the children of God knew our Father well. I wouldn't have done anything wrong to bring embarrassment to the general and his staff, for I was proud to be in the position I was in. Likewise, I want to live holy, just as Christ is holy, so I can tell others that I have a heavenly Father who watches over me. I hope you do too.
