The 1998 summer blockbuster Armageddon tells the story of a grizzled veteran oil driller, played by Bruce Willis, and his team of misfits who are recruited by NASA and the U.S. government to save the human race from an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. The oil drillers are sent up with the task of blowing the asteroid apart with a nuclear bomb. They face many dangers and their mission takes a great many twists and turns. Toward the end, it becomes apparent that one of the drillers will have to stay behind to make sure the bomb goes off. Bruce Willis' character chooses to stay behind and give his life so that the human race will be saved.
