All too often we tell...

All too often we tell others we love them, but we often fail to show that love to them through thoughtfulness and other deeds of kindness. Human beings need to be reminded of that love over and over until we believe we are loved without question.
A story is told of a man who stopped by a farmhouse one day to ask directions. He saw an elderly woman sitting on the front porch. An elderly man was working around the front of the yard and whistling non-stop. The whistling was loud and clear, but it seemed rather purposeless. When the traveler walked up to the man, he said, "I see you are fond of whistling." "Well," came the reply, "for the last thirty years my wife has been blind and she's insecure. So if I keep whistling, she knows I'm near and everything is all right."
Through his constant whistling, the old man was saying, "Don't worry, remember I love you!"
When I feel insecure I need God to assure my heart of his love and his presence. For his love brings to me the confidence that "He abides in us."
