The ancient rubric at the Burial of the Dead says at the committal, "While earth is cast upon the coffin, the priest says these words, 'Unto Almighty God we commend the soul of our brother/sister departed ... in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection ... The corruptible bodies of those who sleep in Him shall be changed, and made like unto His own glorious body; according to the mighty working whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself'." These last lines are a direct quote of Philippians 3:21, and summarize the teaching concerning the resurrection of the body. Also look in 1 Corinthians 15:20ff.
In the German church order during the procession to the grave, we find the text "In the midst of Life we are in death," Psalm 130, and at the grave, a lesson from 1 Corinthians 15 or Philippians 3:21 was/is used.
Both Epistle and Gospel this day speak of a change. Jesus was changed as he prayed on the holy mount, and our earthly existence in the final consummation is changed.
