Cable television operators know that...

Cable television operators know that quite a few people illegally tap into their lines and receive the broadcasts without paying. So in November, 1993 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the cable company aired a commercial for free T-shirts during a pay-
per-view boxing match. The ad said that anyone who called the toll-free number on the screen would receive that free gift. The trick, though, was that the cable company used some new technology that made it possible to broadcast the ad in such a way that it only came on the screens of those who were illegally hooked into the cable. So when 140 of those cable thieves called that number, they were found out and each fined $2,000. As David discovered, none of our sins remain hidden forever. -- Bowen
