Christians come to the Bible...

Christians come to the Bible for advice on how to plan their lives, adjust their attitudes,
and clear up their relationships. The obvious truth is, however, the Bible doesn't give us
advice first, maybe because no matter what we say, we really don't want advice.
The Bible isn't stuffed with passages of God's stepping on a stage like George C. Scott in the movie, Patton, and naming off pithy statements directing us to satisfying lives. Paul usually gives advice last, verse 8, "finally." First, Paul helps you climb up and down the mountains of God's grace. You gaze on the panoramas of divine love and behold God's faithfulness stretching beyond life and death.
Paul now gives advice, but not as though tossing corn for chickens in the yard. After we've recognized that we're loved and forgiven, we're ready to hear, and maybe to take seriously, the advice on how to live.
