Community organizers work in a variety of environments. Some congregations and even denominations have become more involved in such work in recent years. The role of faith-based community organizing is now a significant topic of conversation in the life of the 21st-century church. A key part of such work is to identify areas of interest where people can focus their energies in order to make a difference.
One strategy for the work is to agitate or provoke someone or something in the community. Sometimes it is someone outside the church who needs to be provoked into doing something different. At other times it is someone within the church that needs to be agitated into changing or getting involved. But in all cases, when the method works, people of faith are pushing others to be involved in doing good for the sake of the work of Jesus in the world.
