Continue in the truths you...

"Continue in the truths you were taught" needs further consideration. On October 18, 1685, King Louis XIV of France revoked the Edict of Nantes, which gave tolerance to French Huguenots. In retrospect we realize how wrong he was. So we might need to put quotation marks around "truths."
From 1971 until October 18, 1989, Erich Honecker ruled East Germany as the head of the Communist Party. He believed in certain "truths," which now even Gorbachev has denied. Honecker remains in the Soviet Union.
Stuart Hamblen was well-known as an entertainer and radio personality in 1949 when Billy Graham conducted a crusade in Los Angeles. Hamblen attended several services but was so troubled that he ceased going. Once he felt moved to go forward but he did not. Hamblen's wife was sleeping when he got home but he woke her up and asked her to pray with him. That did not bring him peace so he decided to call Billy Graham, who despite being awakened at 3:30 a.m., invited Hamblen to come to his hotel. Before Graham would pray with Hamblen, Graham said Hamblen would have to give up the things in his life that were wrong. Hamblen, after some hesitation, agreed, Graham prayed, and Hamblen was converted.
One of his greatest hits has been "It Is No Secret" ("what God can do, what he's done for others, he'll do for you"). Let us "Continue the truths you were taught."
